A Stay in Suffolk

I am rather enjoying the stay on our green and pleasant lands for the foreseeable future. Though these adventures might be hampered by assorted sorts of lockdowns - we can still make plans.

For me, Suffolk will always be home, so I recommend (with caution) as I share my paradise of the Suffolk coast, with a flaneurs view of Southwold

It document's the town with his inside view, in the 200 pages relax as Christopher reflects over 5 decades of the town - a catalogue of anecdotes in the last century, taking you from the pyramids when he was 8 to today still playing a few sets of tennis and approaching 93 – it’s a great read , a bit of nostalgia nowadays is so reassuring.

Southwould Bookshop
The quaint Southwold Bookshop, which of course has Christopher's book (as do we). Is ideal for a midday browse, as all independent bookkeepers it has its own personality.

Housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building called "The Olde Bank House" that dates back to the late 18th Century, Southwold Books is a wonderful destination for book lovers of all ages showcasing a broad range of tempting adult titles and an enchanting Children's department hidden towards the back of the shop.

Adnams  have not only their ales with new introductions, there has been a level of careful evolution of their product - with their hotels in the town offering afternoon tea on a damp mid-October day it's a worthwhile treat.

Slate is a cheese lover's heaven, with an amazing, edited collection of delicious cheeses. Time to sort photos and enjoy this savoury treat.


The Lord Nelson Inn

The Nelson (known as the Nellie locally) is a perfect pub that sells food, disguised as a gastropub the menu is extensive and service is Suffolk style.

Wonder & Watering Hole's
Thinking outside the town, or the box, and you are looking for more than coastline, there are many country walks to enjoy in forests, commons or RSPB Minsmere. Driving through small villages that have an inexplicable charm -  it’s the lack of formality in the architecture to enjoy and somewhere special is the Middleton Bell - it’s a truly authentic local pub serving delicious food and has great staff.

You always need to be prepared for outings whether it turns into a adventure or reamains a simple autumn stroll - take one of our rucksacks, ideal for all storage and don't forget and umbrella incase the rain starts to fall.
